Lake Nockamixon

About Lake Nockamixon

Lake Nockamixon, located in the 5,283 acre Nockamixon State Park, is located in southeastern Pennsylvania's Bucks County. The 1,450 acre reservoir is fed by Tohicken Creek, Three Mile Run, and Hacycock Run and is a destination getaway for many travelers, especially those escaping Philadelphia's busy pace.

Most park areas are open from sunrise to sunset, though certain fishing and boating areas are open 24-hours a day year-round. Boating on the lake is limited to a 20 horsepower maximum. As you look around the lake, the glistening waters are dotted with sailboats, motorboats, canoes, kayaks, and even inflatable watercraft full of people enjoying the peace and quiet of the area. When the water bug hits you, you can launch your own boat from any of the four public boat launches, open 24 hours per day, or rent a canoe, rowboat, motorboat, sailboat, paddleboat, pontoon boat, or kayak from the boat rental concession. Please note that swimming is not permitted in the lake. A one-half acre swimming pool with two waterslides is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Lake Nockamixon is a warm-water fishery, and anglers find themselves fantasizing about the walleye, muskellunge, pickerel, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, striped bass hybrids, carp, panfish, and channel catfish that the lake has been known to offer up. Fishing can be done from the comfort of your own boat, or you can take advantage of the public fishing pier at the lake's midpoint.

For those who prefer their feet planted on firm ground, the area offers plenty of land activities. Nockamixon State Park offers three miles of hiking trails that wind around the circumference of the lake, allowing you to witness the natural beauty of the blue waters as you walk off the calories. There is a 2.8 mile bicycle trail, especially designated for this activity, as off-road biking is not permitted. For the horse-lover, there are 20 miles of equestrian trails in the park.

After you have enjoyed a full morning either on the water or on land, relax and enjoy a picnic at any one of the picnic areas around the lake. Picnic tables and charcoal grills are available on a first-come, first-served basis and some are open for your year-round enjoyment.

During the beautiful, snowy winter months, visitors to the lake and state park enjoy ice fishing and ice skating, as the lake's surface freezes during the cold winter months. Cross-country skiing is also a popular cold-month activity, and the snow-covered hiking and biking trails provide wonderful opportunities for this winter sport. Lastly, no winter trip would be complete without a heart-racing sledding or tobogganing ride down the hills above the marina.
